Stoke City in for Ruud van Nistelrooy
Stoke City have made an approach to sign Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Holland forward who has been surplus to requirements at Real Madrid since they signed a new wave of galácticos in the summer.
Van Nistelrooy has made only two appearances this season and played 13 minutes in the league, scoring once.
“It may be a long shot but we’ve made inquiries and we’ll see what comes from them,” Peter Coates, the Stoke chairman, said. “It depends on him wanting games to make sure he goes to the World Cup.”

Berbatov to head £80million United clear-out
Dimitar Berbatov will head a sensational clear-out of £80m of Manchester United talent at the end of the season.
Sir Alex Ferguson has run out of patience with the £30.75m striker after 18 months of inconsistent performances.
And the United boss is also looking to offload underachieving trio Anderson, Nani and Zoran Tosic as well as unsettled central defender Nemanja Vidic.
It will signal the biggest overhaul of a United squad since 1995 when Ferguson dumped Paul Ince, Andrei Kanchelskis, Mark Hughes to clear the way for youngsters like David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers.
